The Problem:

Our dog Finn was a rescue dog from a farm. Long story short – sadly, when their dog had an unexpected litter he was classed as the “runt” and his future didn’t look good. As a result, we decided to give him a loving home and adopt him.

As soon as we got him home, we did what many pet parents do; we purchased him a wide array of toys and play things to keep him happy and occupied.

Finn as a puppy - A cute small black border collie with a white tummy a paws, sat obediently in a grass field, wearing his harness and lead.

However, it very quickly became apparent that most existing products on the market suffered similar problems including:

  • They were too easy to figure out
  • They generally would only occupy him for 5-10 minutes at most
  • They were poorly designed, or poorly made
  • They weren’t robust (despite Finn not being a chewer)
  • Finn could “cheat” the toy, to fast-track the reward
  • And ultimately, they provided owners with poor value for money and pets with a poor experience

As a result, we set out to create him something better...

3 years later:

  • That same home-made slow-feeder was still going strong,
  • He still loved playing with it, and
  • It was still occupying him for longer than anything else on the market

We knew that if he loved it, so might others; and so we teamed up with a local design company to turn our concept into an attractive, robust, commercial viable product…

….and so the Scuttle Pod was born.

“My toy serial killer couldn’t kill this.

My yorkie is a toy serial killer. He’s able to figure out the hardest puzzle toys in minutes. I gave this to him last night on the hardest configuration and it kept him busy for an hour and a half! I finally had to configure it to an easier setting. Usually, my dog would figure out the puzzle or figure out how to take it apart. He couldn’t take this one apart. The size is a bit large for him being 14 pounds but he liked it. If it comes in a small size, I would definitely order another. I love that you an customize the difficulty with the different configurations“

“Love it!

My cattle dog absolutely is OBSESSED with this toy! He gets all his meals in it and even after working for a while getting everything out he wants to play with it more. He rolls it, wobbles it and tosses it. My only complaint is that on our hardwood floors it can be a bit noisy, but it’s worth it to slow down his feeding, give him enrichment and tucker him out. After working on it he always lays down for a nap or chill time. He moved through the easiest levels pretty quickly and has been satisfied on an intermediate level (all 3 blue pieces with no interior walls). So I am thrilled that is could grow and challenge him as he figured it out!”

“Long term slow feeder

got this for my dog who needed another new slow feeder after she figured out the quickest way to get through all of her other ones. I love that you can add on extensions to make it harder! I’ve already gone up a level from where I started at because she was getting too good at getting the food out quickly and she’s back at the slowly figuring it out stage!“

“Levels of difficulty!

Fergus is too smart for most slow feeders. He drops them do the food plops out! This one is a challenge for him and that’s exactly what we needed! The first time we used it, he got about half the kibble out and that took 45 minutes! Also love that you can change the difficulty levels! That’s pretty neat!”
